Adjectives Exercises For Class 7

There are five types of adjectives. These are:
There are six kinds of Adjectives- Possessives, Demonstratives, Qualitative, Quantitative, Number and Interrogatives Possessive adjectives show that they belong to someone or something. My, our, your, his, her, its are possessive adjectives.

Demonstrative adjectives are the adjectives which point out specific things and people. This, That, These, Those are demonstrative adjectives.
Examples:

  • Give me those flowers.

Adjective of quality tells us the kind of a noun or a pronoun. It describes the characteristic of a noun or a pronoun.
Examples:

  • It is a tall tree.

Adjective of quantity describes the amount or quantity of something without knowing its exact number. Some, any, much, many, lots of, plenty of, a few, a little, all, few are adjectives of quantity.
Examples:

  • Give me little water.

Adjective of number tells how many people, places, animals or things are there.
For Examples:

  • Ayush has three cars.

Interrogative Adjectives are used to ask questions about a noun or in relation to a noun such as what, which, whose, how, why, etc.
For Examples:

  • Whose sister is she?

Order of Adjectives: Sometimes several adjectives are used to describe a noun or a pronoun. When you use two or more adjectives, the usual order is: size, quality, colour, origin, substance.
Examples:

  • a small green plastic box
    size colour substance
  • a stylish red Italian car
    quality colour origin

  • A large Indian temple

  • A long Chinese silk robe

Adjectives of quality sometimes come before adjectives of size.
For Examples:

  • beautiful long hair
  • elegant short hair

But adjectives of size always come before the adjectives of colour.

Adjective of substance comes after the adjective of colour.

Degrees of Adjective

Adjectives For Class 7

Adjectives of quality have three degrees of comparison – positive, comparative, and superlative. To describe only one person or thing we use a positive degree.

  • The Ganga is a long river.
  • Neha is short.

When we compare one person or thing with another, we use a comparative degree.

  • The Amazon is longer than the Ganga.
  • Amita is shorter than Neha.

When comparing more things using a comparative adjective, we use the conjunction than in the sentence. While comparing more than two things, we use the superlative degree.

  • The Nile is the longest river in the world.

Active Passive Voice Exercises With Answers Class 7

The form of verb which tells whether the subject (person or object) of a sentence do something or something has been done to the subject is called voice.

Active Voice: A verb is said to be in the Active Voice when the subject acts or when the emphasis is on the doer or the subject.
Examples:

  • Mohan sang a song.
  • Here, the subject Mohan is acting.

Passive Voice: A verb is in the Passive Voice when the subject is being acted upon or when the emphasis is on the object or the work done.
Examples:

  • A song was sung by Mohan.
  • Here, the (song) subject is being acted upon.

The sentence must have objects. If there is no object then there must be a questioning statement which of the asks the object. Object active sentence becomes the subject of passive sentence. The word ‘by’ is used before the subject in sentences in passive voice. 3rd form of Verb is always used as the main verb in sentences of passive voice for all tenses. The places of subject and object are interchanged i.e. the object shifts to the place of subject and subject shifts to the place of object in the passive voice.

Subject Verb Concord Class 10 Exercises

The basic rule of subject-verb concord is that a singular subject (the doer of an action who is being talked of in the sentence) always takes a singular verb (the action being done in the sentence) whereas a plural subject always takes a plural verb.
For example:

  • The girl goes out. The girls go out.

Remember:

  • Doesn’t is a contraction of does not and should be used only with a singular subject.
  • Two singular subjects connected by or, either/or, or neither/nor require a singular verb.
  • Nouns like scissors and trousers always take plural verbs.

The subject and the verb must agree. If the subject is singular, the verb should also be singular. If the subject is plural, the verb should also be plural. The verb agrees with the subject in number and person.

  • The given words look like plurals (i.e. they end in ‘s”). But they are, in fact, singular nouns.
    For these nouns, we use a singular verb.

  • The title of a book, play, story or a musical composition, takes a singular verb even though they are in the plural.
  • Words or phrases expressing periods of time, fractions, weights, measurements and amount of money are considered as singular and take a singular verb.
  • When a plural noun comes between a singular subject and its verb, the verb agrees with the subject and not with the nearest plural.
    For example.

    • Each of the watermelons is sweet.
    • Each one of our group is enthusiastic.
    • Neither of the men was busy.

Just like letters, emails can be formal or informal. Companies, organizations, government departments, and offices use formal emails, which are written like formal letters for official communication. Informal emails are personal emails between friends, relatives, and, sometimes, acquaintances and are written in a friendly and conversational style.

Email Writing Language
You should avoid using any contractions, abbreviations, and slang expressions informal, business or official emails. In personal emails, however, feel free to use contracted words. Conventions like greetings, salutations, leave-taking and closing remain more or less the same as in letter writing except that most email messages significantly reduce them or sometimes even leave them out, especially in messages that run into the chain.

The Piggy Bank

Piggy banks have been around for a long time, but did you ever wonder why people thought to make their banks in the shape of a pig?

Pigs have nothing to do with money. They don’t store food like a camel or a squirrel. So how did we end up using a pig as the style of a bank? Believe it or not, it happened by mistake.

During the fifteenth century, metal was very expensive. Dishes and pots were made of a type of inexpensive orange clay called piggy, which was pronounced just like pig. At this time, there weren’t banks like we have today, so people would store their money at home.

When people had extra coins to save, they would place them in clay jars or pots. Since the type of clay was called piggy, people referred to the jars as piggy banks. Over time this evolved into the piggy banks.

After a few hundred years, people forgot that the word piggy referred to the clay the banks were made from. The English language was also changing and the word pig was more commonly used. So in the nineteenth century, when English potters began to get requests for piggy banks, they assumed their customers were asking for banks in the shape of pigs, not banks made from piggy.

Today piggy banks are made from all kinds of materials, and they also come in a variety of shapes and animals. But the term piggy bank is still used to refer to these adorable containers for loose change.

Note that indirect speech:

  • Inverted commas are used to indicate the exact words of the speaker. (You may use either single and double inverted commas.)
  • A comma is placed immediately after the reporting verb. (In the third example the sentence ends with the reporting verb and is, therefore, followed by a full stop.)
  • The punctuation at the end of the sentence in direct speech is placed before the closing inverted comma(s).

We can also report what the speaker said without quoting his/her exact words. This is called indirect speech or reported speech.

In indirect speech, we:

  • use the conjunction that immediately before the reported words.
  • change the person of the first and second-person pronouns.
